This was a great article but I disagree with the accent comment. If you can't understand someone you ask them to repeat themselves. I've been to countries where they pretend not to know English in order to force you to speak their language. Also, how many nail salons have people speaking another language to each other while customers are fully aware that they're talking about a customer when every one of the techs laughs then looks at the same person? This is rude, not racist.
I can't tell you how many hotels we patronized only to no longer go after they were purchased by foreigners who know nothing about American hospitality. One hotel put a relative in a room with fumes so bad and the manager asked what was he supposed to do about it?
Some treatment is not race based but cultural differences and we need to stop tip toeing around people who move here, open a business, become college professors and/or become a doctor and we can't understand them. One university had lots of complaints about students not understanding professors' accents yet did nothing. "Bok" is not book! I believe some are afraid to say anything for fear of being called a racist, which is not true.
