Jeb Bush Calls GOP ‘Short-Sighted’

Jeb Bush, former Florida governor and brother of George W. Bush, is worried about the direction of the GOP.

Bush told CBS’s Charlie Rose in an interview that aired early Thursday that the Republican Party is “short-sighted” and needs to work harder to recognize changing U.S. demographics.

“Latino voters and Hispanic voters will be important, more so going forward,” Bush said. “I think [the GOP] is short-sighted. I think there needs to be more efforts to realize the demographics of our country are changing and how we message our views needs to change as well.”

Bush also shot down rumors that he might take the second spot on a Mitt Romney presidential ticket, saying that “under no circumstances” would he be Romney’s vice presidential nominee – even if theGOP nominee came calling.

“I’m not going to do it and I’m not going to be asked and it’s not going to happen,” Bush said definitively.

Bush added that although he has not decided conclusively that he won’t run for president, he thinks that if he were going to run, 2012 would have been the year.

“I’ve not made that decision, although I think there’s a window of opportunity in life for all sorts of reasons,” he said. “This was probably my time.”
